Managing finances effectively has recently been becoming more difficult because of increased household expenses, varying expenditure habits, and challanges in joint family spending. Generally, traditional budgeting tools rely on manually recording transactions and do not contribute to making financial analysis smarter, budgeting jointly, or processing the expenses automatically. This paper suggests SmartBudget AI as a way of solving the problem. SmartBudget AI is an intelligent personal finance management and budgeting system that integrates the web and Android ecosystems and uses Generative AI to complete financial operations easily and better than end-users do now. The system architecture relies on the client-server application concept. The application consists of a Flask-based web client and an Android native application built on Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. The system is using central relational databases managed by SQLAlchemy, and all interactions within the system are implemented through RESTful API. A unique feature of the developed system is the usage of Google Gemini – a multimodal AI large language model designed to extract financial information from receipt images.
